Read below for what you can expect in a voice lesson with me...

Lessons for Children (age 8-15)

Voice lessons are a wonderful way for your child to gain confidence and begin to explore the facets of vocal and performance technique.  We will learn about breath support, singing with intention, character development, and creating a beautiful tone. At this age, singing is all about creative exploration. I happily teach several styles of singing including, musical theatre, pop, and folk, but firmly believe that a student needs a strong understanding of classical technique so that s/he may be successful in performing any style of his/her choosing.  Because of the physical demands, I highly recommend weekly 30 minute voice lessons for students between the ages of 8-14. Often, families will choose to couple a 30 minute voice lesson with a 30 minute beginner piano/musicianship lesson, which makes for a very well rounded music education.

Lessons for Adults and Teens (ages 15-115)

Okay, if you are really 115, I'll travel to YOU! Otherwise, my studio in Prospect Heights is a safe and nuturing environment where you can explore your love of singing, no matter how beginner or expert a singer you are.  Singing is something we are all born doing, and merely needs honing of skill, not creating from scratch.  As stated above, I happily teach many styles of singing, all rooted in classical technique. What does this mean? It means that whether you want to sing like Joni Mitchell, Katy Perry, Usher, or Joan Sutherland (R.I.P), if you want to be successful in your singing goals, you must aquire a strong sense of breath support, tone control, and a general sense of your body as a vehicle for sound.  This will give you flexibility to use your given voice to the best of it's ability. This is fun, creative work that is never too late to begin! For teens and adults, I recommend 1-hour, weekly voice lessons.

Testimonials

We are so happy our daughter, Carly, has had the opportunity to work with you as her singing teacher. Under your coaching, Carly has gained a new found confidence and appreciation for singing. Your passion, dedication, and patience create the optimum learning environment for young aspiring singers. Carly truly loved working with you. You served as a mentor for her, and helped her to take her voice to the next level. Her lessons with you were a blessing.

Rachel has infectious enthusiasm and is good at working with different temperaments and learning styles. She patiently taught our daughter Danielle to be a much better vocalist. Danielle's voice became much clearer and more melodious, her range increased, and she learned techniques for smoother transitions between notes. Most importantly, these are lasting skills that Danielle has been able to apply to new songs.

Rachel made my daughter feel so comfortable for the day of her Bat Mitzvah. She received wonderful coaching on breathing, calming nervous energy, and projecting her voice, and also understanding the musical intonations of her chanting.
